Emeraude Plum got her start in burlesque just over a year ago with the very first “Olala Lab” in Paris! A 5-month creative workshop culminating in a major show under professional conditions. I remember her at the very first workshop, discreet, attentive and silent.
It’s true that I always have fun trying to guess which of the 12 participants will be won over by Burlesque fever and won’t be able to stop!

Often it’s a real surprise, and the time it takes shows us that motivation and commitment to this art is a job that requires a great deal of personal investment.

Since the Olala Lab, Emeraude Plum has created other acts and had the chance to perform on different stages such as the Cabaret Olala at the Eurydice, the Guinguette des demoiselles, the Wunder Kabarett, and recently as a member of ‘La Maison Burla’!

Who are your “burlesque characters”? Are they very different from you?
As far as my numbers are concerned, each one corresponds to a powerful female character or entity around which a story revolves. A possessed doll, a mobster, and I’m currently working on a cyborg in a post-apocalyptic universe.
These characters are different from me, in the sense that they each have their own story, their own personality and even their own little name. I think they were born out of frustration at the lack of representation of heroines in the films of my childhood. Burlesque is a great opportunity to embody them.

Did you find it difficult to get started with your friends and family? or did they support you?
Only my sister knows that I’m performing, and she’s a great support to me, even helping to make my stage props. As for the rest of my family, they don’t know, I’m afraid they won’t be able to understand or accept it.

What was the biggest surprise for you when you discovered this art?
The outpouring of creativity, ingenuity and humor; there are codes, of course, but no real limits to what you can do, which leaves plenty of room for originality.
And some great encounters too!
What are your goals now, and how far would you like to go?
Keep learning, create new acts, get on stage more regularly, learn the tricks of the trade, and why not put on a little burlesque show in a few years’ time? I’d also like to take part in international festivals, but the competition is tough and the level very high, so I’ve still got a long way to go!

When you look back over the past year,
what has changed for you since the beginning of this experience?
I feel that I’ve evolved a lot on a personal level, I’m much more assertive and that’s paying off in my professional life, where I’m more daring to put myself forward and assert my opinion. I sometimes say to myself, “Yesterday you danced in nippies in front of 60 people, so you might as well turn up the volume a bit in this meeting to get your point across” It’s often said that to feel at ease in front of an audience you have to imagine them “naked”, but from a stripper’s point of view, it’s the opposite that helps (laughs).
I’ve also realized that the creative process and the exchange with the public is what really makes me happy and boosts me in all the other areas of my life.

Do you have a phrase or quote that helps motivate you to keep on creating?
Often before going on stage I’m terribly anxious, “Will the audience laugh, will they enjoy seeing my act, am I legitimate to do it?” and finally I try to clear my head and say to myself “Do it and you’ll see afterwards, don’t ask yourself any more questions!” It sounds silly but it helps me!
On the creative side, I have so many ideas in my head that it’s more a case of frustration at not having more time.

The exciting life of a Olala beauty puts our skin to the test, between make-up, pollution, lack of sleep and the heat of the spotlight (laughing smiley), our skin needs to be pampered!

The urge to go to the beauty salon for a good skin cleansing then arises, but for lack of time or budget it’s not always easy, so let’s go for a deep cleansing at home!

The first step is careful cleansing (see my article on cleansing with oil). Once the skin has been cleansed of make-up and the day’s impurities, it’s time for a steam bath!


The hot steam opens the skin’s pores, helping to extract impurities deep down!

This facial sauna will optimize the treatments you apply afterwards and provide you with a moment of relaxation.

It’s also ideal for winter ailments, as it helps decongest and open up the respiratory tract. By incorporating an essential oil, you’ll not only have pretty skin, you’ll also be ready to fight off nasty colds!

That’s why you shouldn’t go out for 2 hours after the steam bath, as the skin and respiratory tract are more sensitive to external aggressions!

 

What you need:

  • A heat-resistant bowl or salad bowl
  • A towel
  • An essential oil (optional and only in the evening!)
  • Water straight from the kettle (saucepans work too!).

Quick and economical, you’re ready to cocoon and relax!

Once the water has been brought to the boil and all its impurities removed, it’s your turn!

Optionally, you can place a drop of essential oil (tea tree, for example) in the bottom of the bowl. I add it before adding the water, simply because it’s easy to drop 3 drops when we only wanted one, and then it’s easier to wipe off the excess!

(Be careful with essential oils, which are small but strong: make sure you know which ones to choose before adding them, and only use them in the evening, as they can be photosensitive).

You pour in a large quantity of hot water, place your face on top of the bowl, cover your head with the towel and you’re in your own personal hammam!

We stay for 10 to 15 minutes, taking long breaths, our facial muscles relax, sweat begins to bead on our face, the steam takes effect…

Renew every week for dry, combination and oily skin. For sensitive skin, once every 15 days is enough, and be sure to use slightly cooler water!

You can dry your face or use a fresh floral water and apply your favorite cream, which will enhance its properties tenfold!

 we’d love to have the same softness as our most beautiful satin lingerie, wouldn’t we?

So there’s nothing better than exfoliation to get your skin looking its best!

A beauty essential, it’s even the gesture and ritual to adopt for beautiful, soft, luminous skin. It eliminates dead cells, activates cell regeneration and lymph and therefore our blood circulation!

Today I’d like to show you how to do it yourself. Quick, economical and environmentally friendly, coffee grounds are my favourite scrub!

It contains coffee grounds, vegetable oil and that’s all!

 

Caffeine:

As you may have noticed, dear
Olala Beauty
caffeine is an active ingredient regularly found in beauty products, not only for the body and its anti-cellulite properties, but also for the face, as a formidable decongestant and tensor. With coffee grounds, you get a super-caffeinated scrub, and we love it!

 

Vegetable oil:

We choose it according to our desires, varying not only the scents but also the virtues!

Personally I made this one with coconut oil, I love its irresistible smell, it’s an oil that suits all skin types and especially dry skin!

If you have very sensitive skin, you can choose timeless sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil for oily skin!

For skin with atopic tendencies and to combat cellulite, the lesser-known chaulmoogra oil will be your best ally!

 

Recipe:

Instead of throwing your coffee grounds in the garbage can, just put them in a bowl and add the vegetable oil!

It’s better to make sure that our coffee is organic, but what if we don’t drink coffee? Or if you’re a capsule fan?

Well, simply take an organic ground coffee and cover it with oil. You’ll need just a little more oil to moisten your coffee completely, and it’s ready!

Get in the shower and massage the skin, always moving upwards from the bottom of the body! Take care to insist on areas where the skin is thickest, such as the knees or heels, and on padded areas 😉

Don’t hesitate to do the same for the face, using gentle movements, and the same for the lips to remove any dead skin, and you’re done!

After a scrub, you never forget to moisturize, do you? Well, there’s no need! As the oil does not mix with water, it leaves a thin oily film on the skin, making it even softer and more luminous. Dab dry with a towel!

You’re soft and moisturized for the day!

Tip: Don’t worry about your pipes – on the contrary, coffee grounds make them healthier!

You can find all the products mentioned above in organic stores, in the kitchen or beauty sections, for most vegetable oils. For lesser-known oils, you can, for example, buy them from Aroma-Zone.

Foxy is a facade, a shell. If you scratch a bit, behind the scenes is Chrys, 47, formerly a make-up artist and hairdresser for film and fashion, and a lifelong enthusiast of vintage clothes and decor.

The store’s inspirations?
From the 20s to the 50s. Art deco, art nouveau, the madness of the 30s, the harshness and yet creativity of the 40s, the joyfulness of the 50s.

What can you find in the boutique?
Women’s and men’s clothing, accessories, jewelry, shoes,
handbags, scarves from the above-mentioned years.

Who are Foxy’s vintage icons?
Arletty my favorite, what class, what temperament! <3

What kind of music do you listen to?
It’s very varied, depending on the mood, but it goes from Frehel, Mistinguette, Arletty to Led Zeppelin, including a lot of swing, classical music, Gypsy, rhythm and blues.

What do you think elegance is?
It’s hard to sum up elegance, but for me it’s intuitive.
Attitude, behavior, distinction, simplicity and good taste, grace,
